Subject: Using Configure|Products, Configure|Attributes, and Configure|Products-Attributes

Versions: 3.33 and higher

Description: Explanation of the options on the Configure|Products, Configure:Attributes, and Configure:Products-Attributes screens.

These options help in the following situations:

1) A product contains an attribute that should not be considered part of the Quickbooks Item Name. For example, you put a customized inscription on a name plate, or you hand paint a mug with a specified color. In these cases, the item you pull from stock is just your name plate or mug, so that's how you want to track inventory. However, you do want the inscription or the color to appear on the invoice, so that you know what the customer selected.

2) A product attribute is actually a separate, distinct product. For example, you include an instructional video, and the customer chooses VHS or DVD format. You want to track the video as a separate inventory item, since it isn't really a variation of the main product.

Usage:

Norm/Default: Creates a sub-item in Quickbooks, and adds it to the description line (or allows it to be matched to another item)
     Shoes:Brown          Dress Shoes Laces: Brown

Desc: Includes the attribute and its value in the description of the product, but does not include it in the item name
     Shoes                    Dress Shoes Laces: Brown

Comment: Includes the attribute and its value below the description of the product as a comment line, but does not include it in the item name
     Shoes                    Dress Shoes
     Laces: Brown

Configure|Attributes will change the attribute for any product that it appears in. This is so that, for example, you don't have to configure "Brown Laces" for every model of shoes that have them.

Configure|Products-Attributes will change the attribute for the specific product and attribute combination indicated. This setting will take priority over the setting in Configure|Attributes.

Priority order affecting attribute handling (highest to lowest):
1) Configure|Products-Attributes
2) Configure|Attributes
3) Configure|Products
4) Match|Products
5) (default - attribute creates a Quickbooks sub-item)
